Ultherapy

Ultherapy is a safe ultrasound procedure. There are no drugs, needle sticks or incisions involved. It is a single treatment with no recovery time. It is FDA cleared to lift skin on the neck, eyebrow and under-chin, and on your décolletage too!

The purpose of Ultherapy is to stimulate new collagen growth in your skin tissues. Collagen is lost with age. As collagen is lost, the skin gets looser, and you can start to experience sagging skin and wrinkles. If you can grow new collagen, you can help stop and even reverse some of these effects of age. Younger people can produce collagen better than older people. Why wait until you are older to start thinking about this?

The idea of Ultherapy is that a quick heat point at 65C in poor collagen protein will denature (or damage) the protein. (A little tightening occurs.) Then the body repairs the collagen with new, fresh collagen in about 2 to 3 weeks. (A little more tightening occurs.) Now the body brings in new additional collagen slowly and gradually over several months to help renew and revitalize your skin. (A little more tightening occurs.)

As you can see, the results of Ultherapy are slow and gradual and vary between individuals and ages. Ultherapy is not a facelift. It revitalizes your skin and makes you look better and slows the loss of collagen. It is suitable for all age groups.

FAQs about Ultherapy

What areas can I target with Ultherapy?

You can receive Ultherapy on your face, neck, chest, or decolletage. The results of Ultherapy treatment are akin to a lighter, less invasive facelift. You can use Ultherapy to address a sagging jawline, drooping eyelids, and a host of other facial skin complaints that originate from having loose skin. Ultherapy is also approved to eliminate wrinkles on your neck and upper body.

Who is a good candidate?

An ideal candidate for Ultherapy is anyone who has loose skin under their chin, neck, or chest. The degree of loose skin that a patient has is called their skin’s laxity. Most patients are in their thirties or older, with a moderate degree of skin laxity. However, younger individuals also benefit from Ultherapy to prevent future sagging and reverse aging early on. Ultherapy is not a replacement for a facelift but can create similar results with less financial and physical commitment. Another way to eliminate wrinkles or a sunken appearance is with a filler like Juvéderm®. If you are bothered by excess fat, say, in the case of a double chin, you might also try Liposuction.

What makes Ultherapy different?

Ultherapy is different from other treatments because it penetrates your skin’s surface to target areas usually reserved for cosmetic surgery. Because of Ultherapy’s deep penetration, the results of this procedure are more noticeable than those of machines like laser resurfacing. Ultherapy is the first beauty treatment to use targeted ultrasound waves, which you may have experienced if you’ve ever had a sonogram. These ultrasound waves are highly focused, and allow Doctor Silverton to treat only the areas that you want to tighten.

Ultherapy relies on your own body’s production of collagen to improve your skin. Because of this, it may take up to three months before you will see the final results. Ultherapy is excellent for jawlines and is an effective way to tighten delicate facial skin without creating unsightly scars. Deep and powerful penetration of the skin without the side effects of surgery explains why Ultherapy is hailed as a beauty revolution. You can find testimonials for Ultherapy in women’s magazines like Harper’s Bazaar, as well as media outlets like Morning Joe and the Today Show.

What is Ultherapy treatment like?

When you lie down for Ultherapy, Doctor Silverton will clean the area you want to treat and apply an ultrasound gel. He will look beneath the layers of your skin by connecting the Ultherapy device to an ultrasound viewer (similar to what you might see in a sonogram). Next, the doctor will move the Ultherapy wand across the targeted area. Ultherapy is different from every other non-invasive skin treatment because your doctor will be altering the SMAS, or “facelift” layer, that lays beneath your dermis. You will feel short bursts of heat and tingles of vibration as he moves the device across your skin. Some patients experience mild pain, but you can opt to receive oral painkillers before the procedure.

Most Ultherapy treatments take 30 minutes on the chest, and between 60 and 90 minutes on the face. Ultherapy is relatively quick, and most redness from the procedure disappears within 1-2 hours. For these reasons, many consider Ultherapy an ideal lunchtime treatment. Doctor Silverton’s licensed, trained professional aesthetician, may also administer the treatment.

When will I see results?

The results you see from Ultherapy come from your own body, which ramps up its collagen output to tighten the skin in the treated areas. Your body produces this collagen in response to the focused heat that comes from the Ultherapy machine. Because this collagen is made naturally by your body rather than injected, it can take up to 3 months before the final results of Ultherapy are visible to you. Your skin will gradually grow tighter and firmer week by week before it reveals your final results. Because the change occurs so gradually, many do not notice their tighter jawline or vanishing jowls until a person they know comments on them.

Are the results of Ultherapy permanent?

When you receive Ultherapy, you will essentially rewind the clock on your skin. As you age, however, the treated area will continue to age as normal. Unlike many other methods, you only need one round of Ultherapy treatment to see amazing results. However, we recommend that you come back once every year or two for best results.

What is aftercare like?

One of the reasons many patients choose Ultherapy is the limited recovery period. The only recommendation that Dr. Silverton and his team have is that you avoid other treatments from saunas or spas while your skin continues to heal. You will most likely see noticeable results within the first week after treatment.
