Droopy Breasts: Are Breast Implants or a Breast Lift Best for Me?

Drooping breasts are not widely talked about when it comes to breast enhancement, but it’s still a very common issue that women have to deal with. Anything from aging, pregnancy, to even thin breast skin can cause breasts to gradually droop and sag. If you want to reshape your drooping or tubular breasts into a perkier, rounder form, then you might already be considering a breast lift or breast implants. The question is, which one is best for me?

What Can Breast Implants Do?

Breast implants are great for reshaping and increasing volume to the breasts. Implants move and feel similarly to soft breast tissue, and they come in various shapes and sizes to give your new breasts the perfect shape and volume. The only issue is that breast implants only create a minimal amount of lift, if any at all. In some cases, with patients with breast skin that lacks elasticity or have a substantial amount of droop, breast implants can actually worsen the problem. By adding extra weight to the breasts, they further stretch the skin and worsen the amount of sagging; this can then lead to the implants migrating further below the breast crease.

Why the Breast Lift?

The breast lift is the answer to droopy breasts: with a breast lift, your surgeon can remove and tighten excess skin, which repositions the breasts so that they look perkier, firmer, and more youthful. A breast lift also reshapes the breasts to a rounder, more voluptuous shape.

What is the Benelli Breast Lift?

Also known as the donut breast lift, this special kind of breast lift uses an incision that goes all the way around the perimeters of the areola to access the tissue. Excess skin is removed, and the breast is repositioned and the skin tightened. The Benelli Breast lift is known for being minimally invasive, and leaves a very limited scar. To achieve a better shape, a vertical line incision can be added to modify the procedure. For patients with severe drooping, an anchor shaped incision that runs around the areola, down to the crease, and across the breast fold might be needed for further modification. The Benelli is also great for resizing the areolas, which often enlarge because of drooping breasts.
