Dr. Silverton describes and shows his preferred technique for liposuction.

What Is the Liposuction Surgery Process?

In order to reach that ultimate goal weight, you may need a little bit of help. Fat can be stubborn, and often times, exercise and diet just aren’t enough to remove excess pockets that surround your body. However, luckily, we live in a world where we have options, options like liposuction. A lipo procedure can help you feel and look your absolute best.

First, in order to ensure you achieve your desired lipo results, it’s imperative to find a plastic surgeon who is not only well-educated and skilled, but who also has years of experience.

To begin the liposuction procedure process, patients will meet with Dr. Silverton for a detailed consultation. It is during this consultation that you will share your goals and expectations post-surgery. You will have the opportunity to discuss with the doctor why you want liposuction, and what you hope to gain from the procedure. Dr. Silverton will most likely assess the areas of concern.

Dr. Silverton will then review the entire liposuction procedure in detail, informing you of different techniques and technologies he can incorporate throughout the surgery. The doctor will also take time to evaluate you for surgery, determining whether or not you are an ideal candidate. This physical exam will include the doctor checking the amount of excess fat you have on your body, as well as the quality and elasticity of your skin.

Finally, based on your personal information and body type, Dr. Silverton will put together a customized surgical plan for your liposuction procedure. As no two patients are completely the same, this plan will be completely unique, and solely incorporate your wants and needs. After all, patient satisfaction is extremely important to the doctor.

Once you’ve scheduled the surgery, you will be given some pre-operative instructions, such as to quit smoking, avoid specific medications, get plenty of rest, and to start incorporating a nutritious diet into your daily meal plan. Remember, liposuction isn’t an alternative method to diet and exercise, but should be pursued in addition to lifestyle changes.

The LipoPerfection® Technique

The LipoPerfection technique represents a substantial evolution in liposuction technology. This treatment, based on the Silberg Tissue Preparation System, incorporates ultrasonic wave technology to disperse a wetting solution into the body fat before the fat is removed. This preoperative treatment hydrates body fat, making it easier to remove, and also minimize complications, such as bleeding. Patients can benefit tremendously from liposuction with LipoPerfection technology.

About Liposuction Surgery

After preoperative LipoPerfection treatment, Dr. Silverton removes fat deposits from the body using a suction syringe. Once fat has been suctioned out, the treated area is left to heal without the need for stitches.

Liposuction can be incorporated into other plastic surgery procedures. Patients undergoing procedures, such as a breast lift, breast reduction, abdominoplasty, and mini-tummy tuck may undergo liposuction as a part of their treatment. For the safety of his patients, Dr. Silverton is very selective about incorporating liposuction with other procedures. Dr. Silverton also avoids removing large volumes of fat at one time, as complications can arise due to the increase in anesthesia, longer surgery time, and removal of greater amounts of fluid.

Liposuction is generally performed on an outpatient basis, prior to which anesthesia will be administered for patient comfort. The length of the procedure will be determined by how many areas you are getting treated, as well as the extent of the correction. For example, some areas on the body may take longer to treat than others.

As Dr. Silverton begins the surgery, several small incisions will be made in the area that is being treated. Through these incisions, a hollow tube, or “cannula,” will move back and forth to break up the fat. Then, a gentle suction is used to remove the fat from the desired area. Finally, the incision(s) will be closed with sutures, and then bandaged. A special compression garment may be used to help the body’s tissues as they heal. The liposuction incisions made often heal rather well.

Recovering from Liposuction Surgery

One of the biggest advantages of liposuction is the procedure’s relatively quick recovery period. Most of our liposuction patients are able to return to work within a few days of treatment.

Some post-operative swelling is normal, but typically fades quickly. Also, you may find the treated area to be sore, swollen, bruised, and tender following surgery, but these side effects will not last long.

During this recovery period, it’s imperative that you get plenty of rest, as well as avoid any and all strenuous movements and activities. Whatever you do, do not push your body to heal faster; recover at your own pace.

Liposuction FAQs

Who Is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

The best candidates for liposuction surgery in Stockton, CA, are those who have realistic expectations. While liposuction is a great tool to help get rid of unwanted and stubborn pockets of fat, you will still need to lead a healthy and active lifestyle for your results to last.

Further, liposuction patients should be in good health, both physically and mentally, have adequate time in their schedule to spend recovering, and somewhat near their goal weight. If you plan on losing more weight post-surgery, you run the risk of skin becoming lose and excessive. It’s best for women to be done having children before pursuing liposuction.

The Risks Associated with Liposuction Surgery

As with any type of surgery, risks and complications can always arise. Liposuction has proven to be a rather safe procedure, however, unforeseen problems have occurred, such as infection, bleeding, and nerve damage. Yet, it’s imperative to note that these issues are very rare.

The Different Areas Liposuction Surgery Can Treat

As stated above, liposuction can treat various areas of the body. In women, the most popular areas treated are often the abdomen, breasts, hips, outer thighs, anterior thighs, inner thighs, knees, arms, buttocks, checks, and neck. In men, the areas frequently treated with liposuction include the chin, neck area, abdomen, flanks (“love handles”), and breasts.

Liposuction Surgery Results

It generally takes about six to twelve months before a patient will see the final results of liposuction surgery. However, most individuals do see the beginning of results much earlier, usually within the first month. Often times, by the third week post-surgery, the swelling will subside, and most patients are looking and feeling better.

Does Liposuction Surgery Hurt?

When it comes to pain or discomfort, every individual has a different level of tolerance. It is likely you will feel some pain and/or discomfort immediately following the surgery, specifically, soreness or tenderness in the area(s) that was treated. Yet, your doctor can prescribe medication to help manage the pain.

Liposuction Surgery Cost and Financing

The overall price of liposuction surgery will depend on a variety of factors, including the number of areas you wish to have treated by Dr. Silverton, as well as the specific area(s) treated. During your initial consultation with the doctor, you can discuss payment, as well as possible financing options.
